    Staviva

    Staviva (2011)

Chestnut gelding by Encosta de Lago out of Vivacious Spirit

We are getting in early here with a feature page, just as we did with his sister, Costa Viva, before she had any major success.

Staviva franked his impressive Moe Maiden win with an equally impressive victory in the Mornington Orbit Fitness Handicap (for 3 year olds) over 1200 metres on the 17th of September, 2014. Tardy from the gates & at the tail of the field, Staviva swept up to the city standard list of 3yo’s and came away for an effortless 1.25 length victory. Most likely he will proceed onto the Sandown Guineas even though his rapid natural improvement would place him in consideration for a start in the Caulfield Guineas. An immature horse, with the best ahead of him, trainer Matt Laurie will let Staviva indicate how deep and how high he will progress in this campaign.

    The Beginning:

This impressive chestnut gelding resumed as a 3 year old after one very unlucky start as a 2 year old last winter. After two most promising trials, trainer Matt Laurie found a not-so-easy Moe Maiden on the 6th of September, 2014, with the well regarded Rex Celeritate starting as favourite. Making the victory even more impressive, Staviva drew the outside gate of 14 over the 1200 metre trip. After settling well back (10th) jockey Ben Knobel picked a path between traffic (with a handful of horse) to be poised to challenge on turning. After quickly sweeping up to the leaders in the straight, Staviva raced beside them for a few metres before understanding that it was his task to pass them. In the blink of an eye (and in just a few metres) Staviva opened up a 2 length margin and was eased down on the line to win the 12th December Xmas Party Races Maiden most impressively.

We believe that more significant wins are very likely.

Vivacious Spirit is proving to be the major success story as a dam as we had anticipated. A highly talented Group winning mare who possessed Group One indicative speedfigures, Tarcoola is very proud of her progeny to date.
