    Celestial Century (Safusa)

    Celestial Century 2008 (Safusa)

After returning from Hong Kong Celestial Century (Safusa) has changed stables a few times and is now with trainer, Barry Goodwin.

Currently Celestial Century has 7 wins and $184,426 in prizemoney.

A look at the history of Celestial Century (Safusa):

Safusa is a highly talented gelding by Elusive Quality, out of the brilliant South African racemare, Zolaroyale.

In South Africa Zolaroyale won 10 races, including the G3 Kenilworth Champagne Stakes, and was three times G1 placed.

Safusa was sold for $45,000 at the 2010 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale and displayed tons of ability from day one. Debuting in a Kembla Grange Maiden, Safusa was an impressive 3rd in what has proven to be an exceptionally strong race: the winner being Follow My Lead who next start ran 3rd to Manawanui – and 2nd placed was the now multiple stakes-winner, Darci Be Good. Some provincial Maiden indeed! At his next start Safusa (with no luck in running) finished a close 4th to Mahisara (2012 G3 Sandown Stakes) in yet another Kembla Grange Maiden of unexpected quality.

Returning for his 2nd preparation Safusa soon won his (you guessed it – Kembla Grange) Maiden and before long was vying with Didntcostalot for victory at Warwick Farm  – then winning at Canterbury and leaving Flying Zero & Malavio in his wake. Safusa then emphatically won the Wyong Magic Millions Wyong 3YO Stakes and was installed as favourite for the Magic Millions Guineas. After looking the likely winner of the Guineas on turning, Safusa may have failed to run out the extra distance and finished unplaced.

And – as sometimes happens with promising Australian horses – Safusa then found his way into a Hong Kong stable. Now named Celestial Century, he is in the care of top HK trainer Danny Shum (trainer of Little Bridge, winner of the 2012 G1 King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot).

With a little luck it is expected that Celestial Century will soon build upon the 3 wins and $134,000 in prize-money already gained in Australia.
